A slight addendum to the previous post:

When I walked out of Suntec City, my job done for the day, and I walked back to the hotel, for some reason I began singing this song quietly to myself:

Specifically, the last verse:

I cried when I wrote this song

I realize that Steely Dan isn’t the most hip group you can namecheck on the blogs, but I’ve always kind of dug two of their albums (Aja, where this song comes from, and Gaucho), and “Deacon Blues” is probably the best thing they’ve ever done. It makes being a seedy club-hopping layabout sound romantic. It’s full of so many great one-liners:

“They got a name for the winners in the world / I want a name when I lose”

“My back to the wall  / A victim of laughing chance  / This is for me / The essence of true romance”

And so on.

I like it. Sue me.
