ITEM [via BoingBoing, and you all saw this coming a mile away, didn’t you?]: The WSJ runs an op/ed by Arthur C. Brooks saying that, contrary to what certain elitist Muslim OJ-drinking non-bowling presidential candidates might think, gun owners are ANYTHING but bitter.

According to the 2006 General Social Survey, which has tracked gun ownership (and dozens of other things) since 1973:

  • 34% of American homes have guns in them
  • On average, gun owners have the same education level as non-gun owners
  • Gun owners earn 32% more per year than nonowners.
  • 36% of gun owners are "very happy" (compared to 30% of nonowners)
  • 9% are "not too happy" (compared to 16% of nonowners)
  • Gun-owning Republicans are more likely than nonowning Republicans to be very happy (46% to 37%)
  • Democrats with guns are slightly likelier than Democrats without guns to be very happy as well (32% to 29%)
  • Gun are more likely to give money to charity than people without guns (83% to 75%)
  • Gun owners are more likely than those without guns to strongly agree that they would "endure all things" for the one they loved (45% to 37%)

See what they did there?

FUN FACT: Arthur C. Brooks is a visiting scholar at the pro-gun, pro-neocon, anti-Obama American Enterprise Institute. Not that has anything to do with the WSJ running this op/ed. I’m just saying.

Unarmed,

This is dF

Well, my first thought was, "Those Columbine boys sure seemed to be enjoying themselves".

But yeah, happiness isn't the most quantifiable commodity, which is why I find this column a laughable attempt to prove Obama "wrong" over such a non-issue.
