defrogITEM via BoingBoing]: Not to flog a dead horse, but we have an update on the breaking “right wing car dealers gone wild” story.
Turns out Rick Kieffe – owner of Kieffe & Sons Ford, which recently ran a radio ad advising atheists to shut the fuck up – didn’t write it, doesn’t remember approving it, and regrets that it ever ran.
He doesn’t even go to church, he says.
Meanwhile, the guy who actually wrote and recorded the spot – who lives in Oklahoma and has done spots for Kieffe for years – has responded to the furore, and wants you all to know that he meant every word and fuck you if you don’t like it, you fucking atheist.
I’m paraphrasing, of course. But basically, he comes off a Bill O’Reilly wannabe who claims he respects the right of people to believe what they want whilst simultaneously telling them to shut the fuck up about what they believe.
Which, as I said before, is a funny way to sell Fords. But who am I to be critical?
The lesson: always check yr ad copy.
