It’s a sign of the times when you get off the airplane and meet the bridal unit for dinner in a nearby restaurant to rip up some chickens, and the first thing she asks is, “So, do you think Obama will ask Hillary to be his vice president?”

That’s the level of fascination the Rest Of The World has with the Obama/Clinton Affair at the moment. It’s the best show on TV apart from the local dramas. Why split up the Dream Now?

It’s all speculation now, of course, but I’m really not sure how I feel about it. I understand the concept of Unity Theory – she can fortify his lack of experience and keep the voters that supported her in the fold, etc.

Or maybe not.

Well, that’ll keep the race interesting. It’ll be even more interesting if John McCain follows [personal profile] bedsitter23’s advice and recruits Hillary as his running mate. It’s not like Republicans aren’t seriously considering it.

That said, I’m still skeptical that Hillary fans can keep their hate on for that long. Are they really going to vote for a guy who just admitted if he was president, he’d secretly spy on Americans without warrants (just like Bush has), just to get back at that misogynist bastard Obama?

Then again, maybe it’s as well. Team Def has received word that Junior Bush has an exit strategy for Iraq that involves basically keeping us there forever, which means Obama may not be able to end the war even if he wants to. Nice one.

As for Obama/Clinton, the bridal unit and I were on a similar wavelength – I have a hard time picturing Hillary settling for Second Banana, and an even harder time imagining them working well together without her (and her husband) trying to upstage Obama. Imagine the fun of the President and VP and their spouses traveling places. You’d have at least two presidents in one place, which is probably unconstitutional or something.

On the other hand, who else is Obama going to pick? John Edwards? Al Gore? Shotgun Joe Lieberman? Oprah? Martin Sheen?

Let’s watch, shall we?

Run with me,

I think it's a similar situation to when Republicans said they'd vote for Clinton over McCain (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuTqgqhxVMc). Now, 96% of Republicans support McCain. I think you're going to see something similar happening to the Democrats. Right now, those 28% of Clinton supporters who say they'd vote for McCain only make up 12% of the Democrats who said they'd vote for McCain. And I'm very confident that once the debates start up, they'll be reminded of several things -- we're still in Iraq, al Qaeda continues to strengthen, the economy is doing very badly with unemployment hitting a new high today, and most of the foreclosures are happening in swing states. Once people see that McCain doesn't have anything even remotely resembling a solution and thinks everything is fine with the Bush policies, they'll take another look at Obama.

Remember also that big-time conservative Christians once said they'd rather prop up Huckabee as an independent and vote for him rather than support the GOP with McCain. I think they've since backed off from that. Or at any rate I haven't seen any effort to get Huckabee Indie God Train going.

Huckabee endorsed McCain so that killed any hope of that.

Somehow I still find it hard to believe that Clinton supporters have it in them to jump the fence and vote McCain because Hillary didn't get the nomination. Talk about spite and throwing the country down the shitter.
