ITEM: More than 22,000 veterans have sought help from a special suicide hot line in its first year, and 1,221 suicides have been averted.
Don’t mind me. I don’t have a joke or snide comment. I just like reminding people that war is violent and involves killing people and subsequently fucks you up. Specifically, I like reminding the 38% of people who STILL think invading Iraq was an awesome idea (as well as the other 34% of people who thought it was an awesome idea in 2003 but have since decided maybe it wasn’t all that awesome because shit, who knew it would take more than a few weeks and all those soldiers would die?).
Not that it makes a bit of difference. Phil Gramm probably thinks the people calling the hotline are a bunch of goddamn whiners.
"Support the troops" my f***ing ass.
Kill kill kill,

EDITED TO ADD [a few minutes later]: While we're on this, for those who might be asking, "But what about teh Terrors? We have to stay and fight Teh Terrors!", please read this new study from The Rand Corporation which finds that historically, of the 268 terror groups that have been shut down between 1968 and 2006, only 7% have been successfully shut down by military force. Proper police work shut down 40%, and political bargaining shut down 43%. The latter probably wouldn't work with al Qaeda anyway, but the former would work wonders – provided you didn't resort to illegal tactics like waterboarding and stashing suspects in Guantanamo Bay for years on end.
Oh.
According to a recent RAND Corp. study, roughly one in five soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan displays symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, putting them at a higher risk for suicide.
