TOUCH MY TAXI
Sep. 26th, 2008 03:19 pmIncidentally, while I was on my way to capture evidence of the McPalin campaign in Hong Kong yesterday, this was the view from inside my taxi.

Touch the screen and you get various content, from movie trailers and celebrity news to traffic cams. I’ve heard about plans for this since April, but this is the first time I’ve seen one. I played around with it a bit, but it’s mostly Cantonese-language, of which I understand shockingly little, so there’s not much there for me.
Still, it’s a sign of the times. This falls under the category of “digital signage”, which means inexpensive, interactive LCDs placed just about anywhere you can find a target demo with content tailored to it. Marketing people call it “the fifth screen” (following movies, TV, PCs and mobile phones), and tech companies are already outfitting these screens with Bluetooth, RFID tags and other wireless technology to make them more interactive.
Progress!
