ITEM [via Neatorama]: Web Urbanist has documented seven (7) abandoned cities and places in Asia. Number 1 on the list: the Walled City of Kowloon here in Hong Kong.

Yay!
The Walled City is a bit before my time in HK: it was demolished in 1993, about three years before I first landed. But I sort of knew about it from Jackie Chan’s Crime Story and after reading William Gibson’s Idoru, I was sorry I missed it. Granted, it was a lawless shithole by the end, so it’s probably as well, but I’ve been fascinated by ad-hoc urban decay ever since Blade Runner, so sue me.
Of this collection, the Ryugyong Hotel and Pod City of San Zhi are the only other ones I’m familiar with. I’d love to see Pod City up close. The Ryugyong Hotel, not so much, as it would involve going to North Korea, which is probably more trouble than it’s worth.
Nobody’s home,
This is dF
