You don’t need me to tell you how Junior Bush’s final press conference in Iraq went.



And like many of you, my first thought was: “Wow! That was a pretty good shot!”

Followed closely by: “Pretty good reflexes for a 60-year-old”.

And then: “Notice how the bodyguards aren’t really willing to take a shoe for this president.”

Like many of you, I’m also enjoying the bizarre trend of mainstream news organizations (and the Christian Science Monitor) going out of their way to point out that throwing shoes at someone’s head is a sign of contempt in the Middle East ... as opposed to the US, where it’s usually considered a love tap.

(There’s a Naomi Campbell joke in there somewhere. Feel free to deploy it at any time. I’d make the “Defending yrself against fresh fruit” joke, but bedsitter23  beat me to it.)

Now, in no way do I condone throwing shoes at the President – not even this one – but you just know that every other journalist in that room – and 60% of the White House Press Corps – was thinking, “O godDAMN, I’ve been wanting to do that for f***ing YEARS.”

It was a perfect thing, really. You couldn’t ask for a better image to punctuate the savage, terrible career of George W Bush. What better way to summarize the accomplishments and highlights of this administration than a still-shot of a man hurling a shoe at Junior Bush’s head?

Sure, indicting Don Rumsfeld for advocating torture would be nice too, but I’m being realistic here.

LOL!! actually that's what I thought too. I don't know if people were too stunned, the reaction seems very slow from everyone in that room.

well, BBC keeps saying "but either of them got hit by the shoes"... lol.
