defrogFor those of you who noticed that I got through my entire Watchmen post without mentioning Dr Manhattan’s Quantum Blue Penis Of Doom, this post is especially for you.
FUN FACT: I’m not sure about the US, but there are two versions of Watchmen playing in Hong Kong right now: the Category IIB version (or “R”) and the Category III version (or NC-17). The Cat III version is, I’m told, the one with Dr Manhattan’s Big Uncircumcised Shimmery Quantum Blue Cock all up in yr movie. Amusingly, the only theatre showing the Cat III version is the IMAX theatre. So it’s Dr Manhattan’s Big Uncircumcised Shimmery Blue Cock in ZOMG 70mm 3D IMAX.
Naturally, I went to see the IMAX version for that very reason. Because, unlike 74% of American moviegoers (and about 90% of Watchmen’s demographic), the sight of penis doesn’t make me squirm, blush, cringe or giggle like a 6-year-old.

figmentj already made this point, but I’ll paraphrase, because I thought the same thing – if you sit through a movie with graphic bone-breaking violence, a fairly brutal rape scene, dog mutilation, mass murder and That Scene With The Power Saw, and yr biggest “Ewww” complaint is Dr Manhattan’s Big Uncircumcised Shimmery Blue Cock (which isn’t even real, for God’s sake – it’s CG), the problem is not the movie. It’s you.
Personally, I hope Watchmen finally does what Harvey Keitel, Mark Wahlberg and Ewan McGregor have failed to do – make full-frontal male nudity socially acceptable. In film, at least. It’s 2009, for the love of Mike – high time for Polite Society to evolve enough to get over its Fear Of Visible Cock In Cinema. Why should women have to do all the heavy lifting in the Full Frontal Oscar category?
On a related note, I’ve also heard some people complain about the softcore sex in the Nite Owl Mobile. One critic called it “off-putting”. Well, to each his/her own, of course. Personally I don’t think they went far enough. But then I watch a lot of late-night Cinemax, so I would say that, wouldn’t I?
