Old news to most of you, I know, but I’ve only just seen this.

ITEM: A Texas traffic policeman pulls over a 72-year-old woman for speeding, then Tasers her after she gets uppity.

Fuck.

No, seriously. I can’t think of any other response to this.

Well, I can, of course. But we'll be here all night if I type THAT.

Fuck,

This is dF

I heard the trooper involved in this shameful incident interviewed last and week and I was fairly astonished to hear that he feels perfectly justified in his actions and would do it again. I cannot believe that is what the police force is teaching these days. There was NO other way for him to get control of the situation other than using the taser on her? If that is true, it is an even more depressing thought.

See, you pretty much nailed it. I'm thinking the officer had probably six other options he skipped before reaching his "last resort" option. Whether it's out of malice or laziness, if we justify this, there's really no limit on who they can Tase and for any reason.

And if we decide that the woman really did need Tasing, then we're still pretty screwed as a society.

I heard that interview as well. I'm still trying to pick my jaw up from the floor. It's so hard to believe that the trooper could not get a handle on the situation. What would he have done had he not had the taser? It's really a sad state that we are in when using any type of a weapon is commonplace.
