Speaking of Soul Train, it has its own YouTube channel now. There’s some really cool stuff there.
Like Aretha Franklin singing “Rock Steady”.
And LaBelle doing “Lady Marmalade” with a phantom horn section.
There’s also a Michael Jackson tribute if yr interested.
I used to dig Soul Train when I was younger. In 1970s Nashville, TN, Soul Train, American Bandstand and Don Kirschner’s Rock Concert (if you could manage to stay up that late) were the only shows to see bands play on TV that weren't country/western. I liked all three shows, but Soul Train’s edge was always Don Cornelius and his cool-breeze voice.
I’ve always wished I had that voice – especially after being laid up in an Army field hospital next to a guy who sounded like just like Don Cornelius. All the nurses swooned and threw their panties at him when he spoke.
That’s real ultimate power.
Funk soul brother,
