defrogAs I’ve mentioned before, conspiracy theories are yr best entertainment value. And presidential conspiracies are an American tradition dating back to our founding fathers. And the Obama Is A Foreigner And Won’t Admit It Because He’s Evil Or Something conspiracy is fast becoming a classic. It takes a lot of conviction to cling to a theory as thoroughly and repeatedly debunked as this one – especially when even Bill O’Reilly, Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin have officially rejected the Birther argument.
Which is why I’m fascinated with the new spectacle of elected GOP officials being forced to address the Birther conspiracy – and not being able to give a straight answer.
Politico has a nice rundown on the Birther phenomenon and how it’s becoming a major headache for the GOP who, on the whole, would much rather be bashing Obama about other things. What fascinates me the most about this is that many Republicans would rather hedge their bets than alienate the batshit wing of their party – even though the top spoksepersons for the batshit wing have already declared Obama 100% US-born (albeit still Evil).
Which is telling.
