THE GOOD NEWS: Male prostitution is now legal in Nevada after the health board amends a line in the state health code requiring prostitutes to undergo cervical testing for STDs (a requirement males cannot biologically adhere to, thus disqualifying them from the legal prostitution trade).

THE BAD NEWS: Equal opportunity will kill the brothel industry, says George Flint, longtime lobbyist for the Nevada Brothel Owners Association, primarily because some of the customers of male prostitutes might not be exclusively female (onoes!):

“There should be some fallout and backlash from this decision,” Flint said. “Some may feel it’s a repugnant thing to do or something that does not have the appetite of the state as a whole.”

“We’ve worked hard for years to make the traditional brothel business in this state socially acceptable and something we can be proud of that most Nevadans accept,” Flint added. “We have some concerns that this can be diluted ...”

Flint doesn’t come right out and mention gay sex as being his chief objection. But he did say he’s proud of the Nevada’s brothel industry in preventing transmission of HIV. “Now we’re going to get into an areas that doesn’t enjoy the same track record that our industry has enjoyed,” he said.

Classy.

FUN FACT: George Flint is a former Assemblies of God minister.

FUN FACT: Gay sex free of charge has been legal in Nevada since 1993. Gay marriage is constitutionally forbidden, but the state legislature did legalize domestic partner benefits for gay couples in October this year (though they had to override Gov Jim Gibbons’ veto to do it.

I was watching Firefly the other day, and the future Brothel in outer planets are run by a woman with machine guns and she has both men and women working for her under the same roof - I can't see what the problem is. In fact, doesn't that give customers more options?

isn't what happens in vegas, stays in vegas? *g*
