ROWLF: THE EARLY YEARS

ITEM [via BoingBoing]: And now, a clip from the Jimmy Dean Show featuring Rowlf The Dog trying to turn Jimmy onto jazz.
The bit at the end where Rowlf cracks Jimmy up is absolute gold.
FULL DISCLOSURE: I confess I never knew that Rowlf got started in the early 1960s, first as a spokedog for Purina Dog Chow, then as a sidekick for Jimmy Dean, who once said that Rowlf was so popular he was getting 2,000 fan letters a week. [Source: Muppet Wiki]
Anyway, I like this clip. I cop to being something of a Jimmy Dean fan, but it’s also a showcase of Jim Henson’s genius and willingness to learn – the show was his first gig where a Muppet had to interact with real people in front of an audience, and Henson had to learn how to tell jokes and sing.
Respect.
Man’s best friend,
This is dF
