ITEM [via Schneier]: Lawmakers in Louisiana approve a bill that would make crimes committed using virtual maps even more heinous than crimed committed without them.
In other words, if you use Google Street View to plan a terrorist attack or rob a house, yr even more evil and deserving of jail time than if you use an ordinary map (or no map at all) to commit the exact same crime.
Which is not only unlikely to deter either crime, but also makes no f***ing sense. But then politicians are not in the problem-solving business. They are in the look-busy-between-elections business. And business is good.

Rep. Henry Burns, R-Haughton, who handled Adley's bill on the House floor, said that if the map is used in an act of terrorism, the legislation requires a judge to impose an additional minimum sentence of at least 10 years onto the terrorist act.
If the map is used in the commission of a crime like burglary, Burns said, the bill calls for the addition of at least one year in jail to be added to the burglary sentence.
