Or, “Reasons I will never, EVER vote Republican #29,472”.

For those of you who have recently signed up for Team Def, I probably should have mentioned early on that some posts will be political ... and they may not always be in line with yr own political beliefs, seeing as how I don’t support any political party.

This is because I generally regard all politicians with suspicion and rank their importance somewhere on the same level as Vaudeville comedians (ask yr grandparents) and professional wrestlers. I do take political issues seriously (or at least the ones worth taking seriously), but not necessarily the politicians arguing about them. Which basically means I will give either side a hard time if they do something silly/annoying/reprehensible.

However ...

Whilst I don’t have any particular reverence for the Democratic Party, it’s safe to say the chances of me joining the Republican Party these days are as close to zero as makes no odds.

And here’s why.

Okay, it’s not the ONLY reason. And I realize technically this is just Texas (except for the OMG Gay Marriage part), and that this is just one plank in a broader platform.

But even if the other planks were good ones, this plank is a dealbreaker for me. I can’t take any political party seriously that’s so afeared of Teh Gayz that they’ll reinstate bans on blowjobs and buttsecks to stop them, especially a party that also presumes to lecture me on the dangers of intrusive Big Govt. And don’t get me started on outlawing strip clubs and porn.

Truth be told, I’d be embarrassed to vote Republican at this point. Seriously.

Get out of my bedroom,

This is dF

I wish they would stop making me feel embarrassed to be from Texas.

If it helps, a lot of the coolest people I know are from Texas, so I always tell myself that for every creature like Joe Barton, there's people like you. Also, a state with a city that can do SXSW every year can't be ALL bad.

Yeah, Austin is our saving grace. It's easier to explain than the subtler things that are great about Texas, especially in opposition to "But BUSH IS FROM THERE."

And as usual, the public would soon find that GOP representatives committing all of these banned stuff...

The funny thing, everything they want to outlaw, at least one Republican politician has been caught doing it already. Which just makes the platform even more disingenuous (if such a thing is possible).

I love how politicians seem to think they have the right to dictate what goes on in my bedroom as well as with my body. I don't tell them how to live their lives, who they can and cannot screw, or what hijinks they can get up to in the privacy of their homes. Why the hell do they think they have said authority over me? Ugh!

I do, however, like your paragraph about politicians and political issues. I have one thing to say in response...AMEN!!!

Thanks. The fun part about not supporting both sides is that some people on each side accuse me of being a shill for the other, because if I was objective, I'd be on THEIR side. This amuses me no end.

While I tend to be left leaning in my thoughts, I will admit there are some areas in which I'm right leaning. It depends on the topic. It also confuses the hell out of some folks because they expect me to be either all to the left or all to the right. (I bet you can relate to that one too.)

It took me a day to realize that this isn't a hoax. I seriously thought that this was an Onion article or something.

The midterms are going to be a circus of unimaginable proportions.

In Alabama, they already are.
