National Novel Writing Month is over. Here’s how that went:

Yay me.

As usual, this doesn’t mean I can complete a novel in 30 days so much as it means I can type 50,000 words (or in this case, 56, 492 words). As predicted, the actual novel – Bras From Mars – isn’t anywhere near done and will require about another 50K before I can call it a first draft.

But hey, Rome wasn’t built in a month, right? Anyway, I’ll push on as usual until it’s done. And unlike Planet Of The Bulls, I don’t think it’ll take another three years to finish. PotB is on its fourth rewrite and has been troublesome because every time I revised the draft, I came up with far better ideas than I initially had, which meant more rewrites. With BfM, it seems to be more straightforward – there’s not nearly as much world-building required, and because the central premise revolves around high-tech bra engineering, I can have fun with it (as you do) without having to spend much time dithering over additional research.

Result!

Meanwhile, I also successfully completed National Blog Posting Month (a post a day, every day), although to be fair, I manage to pull that off almost every month. Still, it’s nice to be recognized. And at least I didn’t have to resort to posting the video about the Philadelphia hot dog cannon.

Not that I object to hot dog cannons. That’s how America became a superpower, after all.

By the way, it’s Dynamite Week here at Team Def.

It started, of course, with yesterday’s Black Dynamite trailer, though we didn’t realize we were kicking off a week’s worth of dynamite posts, until we came across this last night at 2am:

Which is just too awesome not to post.

DISCLAIMER: I’ve never read PG Wodehouse. I’m told I should. If his books came with covers like this, I probably would have tried him already. I’ll get to him one day, I’m sure.

Anyway, it’s seven days of dynamite posts for you. Aren’t you lucky?

PRODUCTION NOTE: There will be NO Napoleon Dynamite posts during Dynamite Week, primarily because I’ve never seen the movie, except for that clip. It’s also too easy, which is why the only JJ Walker you’ll be seeing is in the icon box. Unless I find the legendary “Dynamite Homecoming” flyer of 1991, of course.

Watch me explode,

ITEM: Atlantic Records, a unit of Warner Music Group, has become the first major label to report that more than half of its music sales in the US are now from digital products, like downloads on iTunes and ring tones.

Granted, Warner Music overall still only makes 18% of its money from digital sales, and most analysts say the overall music industry won’t reach the download/CD tipping point until 2011. But it’s still noteworthy for an industry that once tried to kill the idea of digital downloads.

Of course, they’re still whining that digital doesn’t make as much money as CDs, which means that in five years the music industry will only make $9.2 billion, as opposed to $10 billion this year. Poor dears.

Perhaps they can qualify for a bailout, too.
