By today’s standards, anyway.

Seriously. If Ernie Bushmiller drew this today, half of America’s newspapers would refuse to carry it and he’d be put on an FBI watchlist.

But then aren’t we all?

I get emails.

Sometimes they’re about bombs.

There’s even demo GIFs.

Without Glass Gard:

WITH Glass Gard:

And this paragraph:

Special Offer:
To protect your Car against Blast, Explosions, Terrorist activities; moreover it also protects from Heat as UV rays form skin diseases, fire, & to some extent decreases velocity of bullet fired too.

Which would be funny except that it’s from a Glass Gard reseller based in Karachi, where bombs tend to go off frequently.

So, yeah, in some parts of the world this is an actual issue people have to deal with daily.

Yr Movie Plot Terrors headline of the day:

Members of the Orange County Sheriff's Office Bomb Squad blew up a 2-foot-high stuffed pony on Tuesday.

Neighbors said the placement of the stuffed toy made it appear suspicious to them.

The toy was found in a cul-de-sac next to a park near Waterbridge Elementary.

Would you like to see it blow up on television?

I’m sure the kid who left it there is in for a big surprise.

"Let that be a lesson to you youngsters: put yr toys away or the police will come and blow them up!"

Key eyewitness quote:

“... My mind started racing with all the terror threats and all the crazy people in the world, how crazy it potentially could have gotten," eyewitness Scott Kilwine said.

And that’s how we lost the War On Terrors.

Dangerous toys,

There is some dispute at the Def Citadel as to what was the first 45 I bought with my own money. I know it was 1975 (the year I turned ten, incidentally), and I’ve narrowed it down to three (3) possibilities.

This is one of them: “Jackie Blue” by the Ozark Mountain Daredevils, who were a country-rock outfit, but you’d never know it from this song, which sports an underrated guitar hook and sounds just as heavy now as it did then.

FUN FACT: For years, I assumed it was a girl singing lead vocals. Did I mention I was ten when this song came out?

EXTRA CREDIT: Spot the cannabis reference. (Hint: it’s not in the lyrics.)

Don’t try to tell me that yr not aware,

Glommed from [livejournal.com profile] drhoz , here’s the most awesome thing yr going to see on the Interwub today: toy cars exploding in slow-motion.

Admit it: when you seven, you dreamed of being able to do this.

My only criticism is the music. Personally, I’d have gone for L’Trimm.

Or at least a L’Trimm/Gary Numan/Beatles mash-up.

We like the boom,

Good morning, my little Intersluts.

It’s Monday morning and you need an image to lock in yr brain that will get you through the horror of the day facing you.

Something like, oh, Redd Foxx getting an eyeful of Tamara Dobson.

PRODUCTION NOTE: That is not a still from Cleopatra Jones.

But it should be.

Well, it’s time to wrap up Dynamite Week, and I’ve got two items left, so I’ve got an editorial decision to make. Should I use the Milton Bradley home game, or the Thai film trailer with a guy who uses dynamite as a kung fu weapon?

Answer: both!

1. Dynamite Shack – the home game!

Get rid of your dynamite by dropping it down the chimney of the shack before it blows its roof! Instructions here (PDF).

NOTE: Actual exploding dynamite sold separately.

2. Dynamite Warrior! Starring Dan Chupong!

Okay, that’s all I got for Dynamite Week.

Oh, did I mention that tomorrow is Roller Skate Week? Yes. Because the fun never stops at Team Def.

I have to check out of the hotel in 45 minutes, and I’m not sure if I’ll be back on the Internets before close of business today, so here’s today’s installment for Dynamite Week:

The greatest fashion shop name ever: Sexy Dynamite London.

What’s better is that it’s not actually in London, but Tokyo (specifically, the ultra-trendy Harajuku district, which invented every Japanese schoolgirl fashion trend you can think of). It’s basically riffing off Vivienne Westwood’s 70s punk fashion heyday, only – as is standard operating procedure in Tokyo when appropriating Western pop culture – turning all the knobs to 11.

Sample ensemble:

I love it. But then I own a copy of Japanese Schoolgirl Inferno, so I would say that, wouldn’t I?

That’s not punk,

Dynamite Week continues, and if yr my age (which would make you the same age as Slash, Famke Janssen and Sherilyn Fenn), when you hear the word “dynamite” the third thing* you think of is, “that magazine from Scholastic Book Services”.

Like so.

Yes. It didn’t get much cooler than this in Fifth Grade. Retrocrush proves it with this fine covers gallery.

I know what yr thinking: “What about Tiger Beat?”

What about it? Did Tiger Beat have Chewbacca and Shaun Cassidy ON THE SAME F***ING COVER?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

They did not. Fuck Tiger Beat.

*ADDENDUM: The first two things you think of when you hear the word "dynamite", of course, are (1) Looney Tunes and (2) that guy in the icon box.

I’m spending the rest of Dynamite Week in Singapore, by the way. And it’s turning out to be far busier than I anticipated, so in case you haven’t seen this already, here’s what happens when you try to move a dead whale off a beach with 20 cases of dynamite.

Hint: flying whale steak bombs.

This is classic Interwebs right here.

I think we need more dynamite,

As you might expect, it’s impossible to have Dynamite Week without some tunes. And sure, I could go for the obvious, but why post AC/DC’s “TNT” when you can post an obscure funk classic by Tony Camillo’s Bazuka?

Shut up. I love this song. It kicks teh booty.

If you need something a bit more uptempo and 80s-influenced, there’s always Ima Robot.

By the way, it’s Dynamite Week here at Team Def.

It started, of course, with yesterday’s Black Dynamite trailer, though we didn’t realize we were kicking off a week’s worth of dynamite posts, until we came across this last night at 2am:

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Which is just too awesome not to post.

DISCLAIMER: I’ve never read PG Wodehouse. I’m told I should. If his books came with covers like this, I probably would have tried him already. I’ll get to him one day, I’m sure.

Anyway, it’s seven days of dynamite posts for you. Aren’t you lucky?

PRODUCTION NOTE: There will be NO Napoleon Dynamite posts during Dynamite Week, primarily because I’ve never seen the movie, except for that clip. It’s also too easy, which is why the only JJ Walker you’ll be seeing is in the icon box. Unless I find the legendary “Dynamite Homecoming” flyer of 1991, of course.

Watch me explode,

Coming soon to a theatre/video store near you, apparently.

I thought it was a spoof trailer at first. It’s not. It looks like a decent riff on Rudy Ray Moore, but why settle for imitations when you can have the real thing?

GOVT WARNING:
Both trailers are decidely NSFW, due to all the naked ladies and liberal use of the word “motherfucker”.
