Samsonite has been running this ad in the MTR (the local subway):

hong kong

hong kong

What’s interesting – apart from Samsonite’s deployment of the classic “I am yr sexy limousine driver” fantasy to sell luggage – is that the name on the placard is blurred out.

It wasn’t, initially.

It used to say “Mr Wilson”. And if you look closely, you can tell it still says that under the blurry bit.

Why they redacted it, I have no idea. Maybe someone named Mr Wilson complained?

Say my name,

How many incongruities can you spot in this message?

To be fair, I for one would love to have an ice cream cone before lunch. If you know what I mean.

And now, for Veterans Day, here’s Dennis Miller interviewing George Carlin in 1997 about his military days, in which Carlin makes a case in favor of war.

But in a funny way.

Also noteworthy for the fact that Miller’s views on warfare have changed considerably since this was aired. So maybe we can blame Carlin for changing his mind.

Well no, of course not. Carlin was talking about generally giving up on humanity and deciding that if we’re all just determined to kill each other, he might as well sit back and enjoy the show. Since 9/11, Miller has bought into the usual Big Fear and subscribed to the Whatever It Takes strategy to defend America from its Big Scary Invisible Enemies.

FUN FACT: I have the audio of this interview on my iPod.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I’m a US Army veteran. In case you were wondering.

And yr welcome.

That’s entertainment,
