LISTEN TO IT #42: YR THE SAME KIND OF BAD AS ME

Another likely Top Ten candidate for the year is, unsurprisingly, the new Tom Waits album.

Long-time fans know by now that Waits comes in three main flavors: demented blues, brokedown balladeer, and batshit carnival barker. On this album you get all three in one shot, so if you prefer one version of Waits over the other two, it might be a mixed bag. Personally I like them all, and I’m amazed that Waits can keep retreading the same ground and make it sound fresh and on his own terms.
